From Banlieu to Non Lieu #2 – Let the Gentrification Commence

So I’ve been cycling around taking photos of some of the construction work in my area; I’m not a photographer so there’s some bluriness, but if I was being artisitc I’d say this represents the fluidity of change.

Step One of any gentrication project is the improvement of public transport in an area.  The first three images refer to the extenstion of the Paris metro line in our area. The suburbs of Paris are now becoming part of “Grand Paris”, a project of urban improvement based around the extension of the metro and building of new line 15 which will link the edges of the city. The ends of the metro line become desirable places to live, not because they are places in their own right; but because of the ease of access to the Capitol.

The new builds are often on top of what was once social housing; but which is now sold as luxury and exclusive accomodation.

Brand new identical white boxes, just waiting to be lived in

not all the flats are wired up, and the packaging is still on the lamp post

again the door handle is still wrapped in bubble wrap. Giving away the assembly line and homogenous nature of these houses

Pre-fabricates sales points have popped up in boxes all along the Boulevard. Their lazy and uninspired nature is a warning to the changing character of the quarter
