From Banlieu to Non Lieu #3 Privatise, Destroy, Clean, Repeat.

I woke up a few days ago and Sadev had closed down part of my road; a small and insignificant route sure but it’s a shortcut to the bus stop. Friends of mine who live on that road woke up to find Sadev had plonked some bloody portakabin in front of their squat. the same squat also had an abandoned car parked in front of it which was apparently blocking the continuation of their construction site. Then on Sunday night the car mysteriously set on fire, which was very convenient for the continuation of the work.

Part of the process of social clansing is to bury old histories under new ones. The gentrifiers are well aware of this; the advertising for the new builds makes illusions to “Beauquartier Villejuif” like a whole new neighbourhood just mushroomed out of the ground.

The Bouee was a notorious place; squatted for 27 years before being legalised when it was evicted 3 years later. It’s now awaiting destruction

A young surveyer measures out the future lines of peoples lifes, behind the billboards is a hole the size of a football pitch. The billboard behind reads “The heart of a calm island with lanscaped space” Most of the houses that have been destroyed had gardens.

Close by older houses await destruction; the owners have been bought out and the houses have often been standing empty for years.

Fences and barriers are the weapons of the gentrification process, as the older residents o the area are forced to reowrk their routes and lives around the new builds
